Upon occasion, Texas will experience impending weather that requires pool owners to take note. With freezing temperatures expected throughout the Dallas-Forth Worth area within the next few days, it’s important to take action. Extra care needs to be taken now in order to prepare your pool both during and after a hard freeze to avoid costly damage to the pool and its components.

Preparing Your Pool for Freezing Conditions

In order to properly prepare your pool for the upcoming frigid temperatures, we recommend doing the following in order to protect your pool:

1. Ensure pool fill line/autofill is either disconnected or tightly wrapped to keep it insulated.  Your outdoor water spout also needs to be winterized. Be sure to keep your water at the middle of the tile line, as to prevent your pumps from drawing damaging cold air in through the skimmers.

2. Do not turn off your equipment. Moving water can’t freeze, so the first step is to make sure your filtration and auxiliary pool pumps are running continuously. The pool controller has a freeze guard that automatically turns on your pool equipment when temperatures get near freezing.  We recommend checking equipment one more time before you go to bed at night to ensure it is running.
